ASSASSINS
NEW! - Alpha Test coming Friday 5th during Gaming Society's second meeting!
New! - Beta Test coming Saturday 6th at West Park, but is dependant on weather.
The game of Assassins (also known as Gotcha, Assassin, KAOS (Killing as organized sport), Juggernaut, Battle Royal, Paranoia, Killer, Tag, Elimination, or Circle of Death) is a live-action game. Players try to eliminate each other from the game using mock weapons in an effort to become the last surviving player.
How do I play?
First, make sure you're accounted for (see "How can I sign up?" below). Make sure you have an appropriate weapon, or arsenal of weapons. Wait to recieve your designated target. You will be given a name and a varying amount of info on your target. Make sure you're aware of the safe zones and plan your attack. Ensure that you deliver the killing blow to the torso. When you kill a player, take their designated target as your next target.
Report all kills you commit, even accidental and untargetted. If you kill assassins that aren't your target, your notoriety will go up and extra assassins will be sent after you. The higher your notoriety, the more points you gain per kill. If a player has made it clearly obvious that they are attempting to kill you, or they have threatened you with such, you have permission to kill them in response. Remember this aspect when you attempt an assassination, as you may not be the one to walk away...
I'm not sure, can I give it a try?
Sure! We will be running an Alpha trial and a Beta trial very soon, but be aware that the proper game will be a lot bigger in terms of time constraints, physical boundaries, and options for kill methods.

Rules:
1) This is a game.
1a) The point of a game is to have fun, don't seek to ruin the game.
1b) Do not use this game as an excuse to break any rule (campus rules and the law, for example).
1c) Have fun!
1d) These rules may change at any time but will only do so to clarify issues or expand the game.
2) If you're not sure, ask.
2a) Some weapons are not safe for use, but it can be difficult to tell. If you're unsure, ask.
2b) If you think there should be a safe zone added to the list, ask.
2c) If there is a dispute about a kill, try and provide supporting evidence. Judges cannot be everywhere at all times, so please stick to the spirit of fun and see rules 1 to 1c. If proven guilty, liars will be penalised.
3) You may only kill someone by means of authorised weapons:
3a) The following items may represent the weapon/s listed. These items NEVER have to be labelled:
+ Wooden spoon - a small knife.
+ Drumstick (the kind used for a drum, not the food kind) - a small knife.
+ Umbrella - a sword (when closed) or a shield (when opened, especially useful against nerf guns).
+ Extendable lightsaber - a sword (when fully extended).
+ Nerf gun - an actual gun (See 3b).
3b) Nerf guns (which fire foam darts, not disks) are authorised projectile weapons, not authorised melee weapons.
3bi) Some nerf guns are over-the-top and should be verified for use with a judge. If you are intending to use anything bigger than a nerf pistol, have it verified by a judge.
3bii) You may ONLY use Nerf guns to fire foam darts. Firing anything hard/dangerous (such as pens) will not be tolerated and you may be removed from the game.
3biii) You may not pick up and take away a player's fallen ammo. You may pick each piece of ammo off the ground and throw it ONCE only. If ammo is caught on you, you must remove it and drop it to the ground. You may not step on ammo and you may notmove the ammo in any way other than previously described.
3biv) The only exception to 3biii is if the ammo is in danger, such as rolling towards a drain/grate, rolling towards a road, etc. In these cases, you may stop the ammo from moving, and you may move the ammo to somewhere more suitable to the owner of the ammo.
3c) You may use a sticker with the word "poison" written on it to represent actual poison. It is in effect when attached to an item for consumption, or the object holding/containing the consumable. DO NOT ACTUALLY TAMPER WITH THE CONSUMABLE MATTER.
3ci) The smallest permitted sticker size is the size of an English 1st-class stamp. The writing must be legible and readable by the naked eye.
3cii) Removing or crossing-out the sticker counts as counteracting the poison. The consumable is safe from that moment onwards.
3ciii) You may not poison water supplies or water delivery systems (boilers, pipes).
3civ) The poison is only in effect as long as the object the sticker is attached to is the primary resting place of the consumable as it's being consumed. This means you may not poison someone by putting a sticker on a previous container (such as a cereal box or kettle, for example). This also means that if a target discovers the poison sticker and is unable to remove it OR scribble it out, they may transfer their food to a new object (i.e. plate/bowl) to eat without being poisoned.
3d) Bomb rules are unfinished. Bombs will not be permitted until the bomb rules are finalized.
3di) A bomb must have a "bomb" sticker attached and must be at least one of the following:
+ Any timed device that makes a clear indication when it hits the specified time (such as a kitchen timer or an alarm clock).
+ Any remote-activated device that makes a clear indication when it is activated (such as a mobile phone or wifi-activted alarm).
3e) Special authorised weapons:
+ Official Hulk gloves (melee only, both hands must be worn at the moment of the kill).
+ Official Fantastc Four "The Thing" gloves (melee only, both hands must be worn at the moment of the kill).
+ Any toy chainaw at least 10 inches in length with chainsaw sound effects (only effective when the SOUND is PLAYING).
More TBA.
4) You may not kill anyone who is in a safe zone. If a "kill" happens in a safe zone, it is null and void. However, this does not negate anything else, such as the killer making themself apparant to the target that they are indeed after them.
4a) Safe zones include:
+ Lecture halls.
+ Classrooms.
+ Laboratories.
+ Toilet cubicles (but not the rest of the bathroom).
+ Any room containing a toilet in a home (i.e. bathrooms containing a toilet, or standalone toilet rooms).
+ Players' workplaces (but only when involving that player).
+ Shared living space (see 4ai).
+ Extra areas may be announced as a safe zone by a judge, usually in the case of some gathering/event going on.
4ai)Regarding living space:
Any member of a household may not kill another member of that household while the victim is in the household. The only exception to this is with poison.
This means that members of a shared household may kill guests, and vice-versa.
The physical "household" safe zone space is the interior of that household. Gardens are not safe zones.
If The victim is both inside and outside, such as standing in a doorway, the defining aspect will be the placement of feet. If one or both of the victim's feet are touching the ground inside, the victim is considered inside and safe.
Though this is not a rule, but more of a suggestion, if a number of household members are at a stalemate regarding trying to leave at the same time, have one person leave at a time while the rest remain at the other end of the household. This is only a suggestion though.
5) Kills:
5a) Any authorised melee weapon striking the torso is considered a successful kill.
5ai) This means that blocking a melee attack with, for example, an arm, counts as a block and definitely not a kill.
5b) The fired ammunition of an authorised projectile weapon, while in the process of travelling directly due to having been fired from the projectile weapon, when striking the torso, is considered a kill.
5bi) Any object used to block/deflect/stop the ammo nulls its effect, even if, for example, the ammo were to then fall onto the target player.
5bia) Clothing does not count as a suitable blocking object.
5bib) There is no such thing as armour.
5bic) You may use a shield as long as it is not attached to you.
5cid) The only exception to "no worn shielding" is backpacks/rucksacks, but only when blocking damage to the back, not the front. However, if the weapon still makes contact with the victim's back in a way described as a valid kill, the kill still succeeds.
6) Who to kill:
6a) You may use any authorised weapon to kill your specified target.
6b) When you die, you must inform your killer who your target was. That target becomes your killer's new target.
6c) If an attempt is made to kill you, the attempted killer becomes a valid target. If you kill this person and you were their target, you get regular points. If you were not this person's target, and they have bluffed you into killing them, you receive half of the penalty points. (See "Points")
7) Points are dependant on 3 categories (anonymity, stealth, and witnesses):
7a) Extra points will be given if at the moment of death, the victim doesn't know who killed them.
7b) Extra points will be given if the victim is unaware that they have died (such as by poison, for example)
7c) The resulting points will be scaled in reverse to how many witnesses there were (more witnesses equals fewer points).
7ci) A witness is someone other than the killer and the victim who is aware of exactly who killed exactly who at the moment when it occured.
7cii) Furthermore, a witness' testimony only counts if they email the testimony to a valid judge within 24 hours of the kill. (Title these emails "Witness testimony of X killing Y" where X is the killer's name and Y is the victim's name).
8) Procedures:
8a) For almost all significant events, email a valid judge within 24 hours of the event.
8b) If you kill someone, email a valid judge with a brief description of how the kill happened, who was killed, whether the victim was aware of who killed them, and list any witnesses (this list of witnesses will not count against you unless they email the judge, therefore you should not hesitate to be completely honest). The victim will be emailed by the judge. The victim then has 24 hours in which to confirm or deny the kill.
8c) If you are killed, email a valid judge with a brief description of how the kill happened and state whether you knew who killed you at the moment of death (and if so, who), any other victims killed in this incident, list any witnesses (note that listing witnesses doesn't automatically count as testimonies. They must email a valid judge within 24 hours of the incident).
8d) If you witness a kill, email a valid judge with a brief description of how the kill happened who was killed, whether the victim was aware of who killed them, and list any witnesses (this list of witnesses will not count as testimonies unless they email the judge.
