NUS Annual Conference Delegate Candidate: Claire Smith
Since starting at the University of Wolverhampton in 2007 I have taken part in many Union activities and societies. So much so I am one of the few people to hold the Universities ìVolunteering Award of Excellenceî of volunteering over 500hrs since I started.
These 500hrs were put into the Volunteer Squad and helping with a variety of Union ran activities. I also chaired the LGBT Society for 2years and held a part time position of the Students union as the Non-Portfolio Officer for the year 2009/2010.
In this time I attended two NUS LGBT National Conference’s. Last year our as part of the LGBT delegation, I helped to passed an emergency motion due to the poor accessibility for the disabled students and those who had specific dietary needs that were not met.
Passing motions and voting on conference floor are serious and sometimes complex procedures, but through attending the LGBT National Conference and sitting on the Students Union Council I am familiar with the set up and procedures, and so would be a perfect candidate to attend Annual Conference to represent the University of Wolverhampton.
