Who are we?

The Esports Gaming Society is aimed at providing a team for students to compete against other universities in the Esports competitions NSE and NUEL.
We want to provide a space for students who want to play at high levels, or just have a “winning” mindset when playing. This does not mean you have to be good at the game you wish to take part in to join, nor do you have to compete in the competitions (due to the nature of Esports there will be a limited about of entries available anyway)
Many of us have played the games for years and will be there to offer guidance and support for new players interesting in learning.

What do we do?

When I asked the founding members what they wanted out of the society, one of the overwhelming responses was friendship, which is ultimately the goal of the Student Union Societies. We don’t just sit and play the games we’ll be participating in, if you have an interest in any game and want to make friends to play them with, you’re welcome.
We’ll also host in person meets, including the pub, to build team cohesion and help everyone find the people they want to be around during their time at the University.

What games do we play?

The games we currently have interest in are:

• Overwatch
• Valorant
• League of Legends

The games that are available are:

• Overwatch
• Valorant
• League of Legends
• Dota 2
• Rainbow Six Siege
• CS:GO
• Rocket League
• Multiversus
• Smash Bros
• Team Fight Tactics
• Fortnite
• Mario Strikers

Valorant and League of Legends also have tournaments specifically for Women and Non-binary teams.

When do we practice?

Our allocated “practice days” are lined up to match the days the actual competitions are played, to help solidify the idea that the games are played at certain points.
As such the practice days are as follows for our current games:

• Valorant – Mondays 18:00 – 22:00
• League of Legends – Tuesdays 18:00 – 22:00
• Overwatch – Thursdays 18:00 – 22:00

You by no means have to play on these days
We set these as days to play so that a schedule is in place for us all to practice together, but playing during them are not a requirement. 
We do ask that you try to play for at least 2 hours during these days to ensure we all get time together to learn and have fun, but life and studies must come first.
You can always arrange with members to play games (ones of these or others) during the week, you are not limited to these days and times.

Our events take place online, so the unfortunate requirement for you to play would be to have your own system and be legal copies of the game.
This does not prevent you from joining the society, you’re welcome to come along to our meets and chat in discord with us.

Code of Conduct

As well as the Student Unions code of conduct, we also abide by the Code of Conduct presented by the NSE as it also incorporates rules in the spirit of competing.
It is assumed that when you join the Society you have agreed to this Code of Conduct.

We uphold competitive integrity and the spirit of fair play.
We follow both the letter and the spirit of the rules at all times. Our rules exist to preserve competition integrity and enjoyable tournaments.

We never use racist, sexist, homophobic, or other discriminatory language.
Our community is open to all students and there is no place for language that makes anyone feel unwelcome. We do not accept discrimination in any forms.

We never engage in threatening behaviour or harassment.
We do not tolerate any behaviour that makes any member of our community feel threatened or harassed. We will report conduct of this nature to the relevant universities and authorities.

We are respectful to others.
We treat each other as we wish to be treated. We know competing passions can flare, but that does not justify treating others poorly."
