SU Response to Closure of the Inter-Campus Service

As your Sabbatical Officers, we are very disheartened to learn that the University of Wolverhampton has decided to terminate their inter-campus free bus service from 31st July without any consultation with the Students’ Union or students, who of course are our members.

The SU strongly objects to the removal of this service, recognising its importance in helping students to travel safely between campuses and we are concerned about the impact on our students. Current students who rely on this service will have to make their own arrangements, and new students who were aware of this free service during the recruitment process will be left disappointed from the outset of their student experience.

The SU understands that this decision by the University is part of their financial cuts to help balance their budgets.

The University has indicated that they will look at broader hardship issues and, of course, your SU will work with the University on this. Nevertheless, this does not address the core issue that the long-standing free bus service will soon be discontinued, with no replacement in sight. The University has recommended that if students have any specific concerns, they should contact the Student Support and Wellbeing team for help and guidance.

We will hold the University to account on its decision to ensure that a suitable solution is put in place to minimise the impact on our members and any future decisions are made with students at the forefront.

We want to hear from as many students as possible on this. Therefore, please fill out our feedback form available here, to express your thoughts and feedback on this decision.
